Kashmir: 1817. Small Octavo (7 7/8 x 5 2/8"). 566 leaves. Original red leather wallet binding incased in Indian brocade cloth
with gilt threads. Gilt goffered edges. Hand colored light green endpapers. Arabic text in Nashki script in black ink with Persian interlinear translation in red ink Nastaliq. The text of eleven lines per page is centered with commentary written in margins. Richly illuminated Unwans and chapter headings with chapters designated by medallions in blue and gilt. Contains eight illuminated carpet pages, with loosely laid in tissue guards, seven of them are double page spreads. The colophon at rear states that the Quran was completed by the scribe Baha' Allah on Friday the 25th of Rabi' al-Awwal of the Islamic year 1232, corresponding to the 12th day of February 1817 A.D. It was ordered by a dignitary who's name has been erased from the colophon. Goffered gilt edges slightly faded, some minor stains and offsetting, else in fine condition. Item #43107
