This work features the finest examples of modern residential architecture completed between 1939 and 1940. the volumes are compilations of material originally published in the architectural magazine "Kokusai Kenchiku", to commemorate its 10th anniversary. The magazine was described as the "bible" for architects and students in Japan from the 1930s-50s, as it introduced new works by young Japanese architects, and presented the latest design styles of the era to a Japanese audience.
The first part of each volume deals with Japanese architects and their works, while the second part focuses on International residential architecture (United Kingdom, United States, Italy, China, Hungary, Belgium, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, Mexico, India, and Palestine).
Vol.1 covers the years 1933-1935, and includes 32 examples of residential architecture in Japan, and 40 examples of residential architecture in Europe, America and Algeria.
