Complete 4-volume set on modern architecture in Japan and the rest of the world. This work features the finest examples of modern residential architecture completed between 1939 and 1940. the volumes are compilations of material originally published in the architectural magazine "Kokusai Kenchiku", to commemorate its 10th anniversary. The magazine was described as the "bible" for architects and students in Japan from the 1930s-50s, as it introduced new works by young Japanese architects, and presented the latest design styles of the era to a Japanese audience.

The first part of each volume deals with Japanese architects and their works, while the second part focuses on International residential architecture (United Kingdom, United States, Italy, China, Hungary, Belgium, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Finland, Sweden, Mexico, India, and Palestine).

Vol.1 covers the years 1933-1935, and includes 32 examples of residential architecture in Japan, and 40 examples of residential architecture in Europe, America and Algeria. Features the works of Kikuji Ishimoto (石本喜久治), Yoshiro Taniguchi (谷口吉郎), Antonin Raymond, Richard Neutra, Le Corbusier, and Pierre Jeanneret.

Vol.2 covers the years 1936-1939, and includes 23 examples of residential architecture in Japan, and 47 examples in Europe, America, Palestine, and India. Includes the works Richard Neutra, Frank Lloyd Wright, William Wurster, F. R. S. Yorke, Marcel Breuer and Maxwell Fry.

Vol.3 covers the years 1937-1939, and includes 40 examples of residential and hotel architecture in Japan, and 2 examples in America. Includes works by Richard Neutra.

Vol.4 covers the years 1939-1940, and includes 17 examples of residential architecture in Japan, and 61 examples in Europe, America, South America and Palestine. Features the work of Chikatada Kurata (蔵田周忠), Kameki Tsuchiura (土浦亀城), Sutemi Horiguchi (堀口捨己), Iwao Yamawaki (山脇巌), Masanori Sugiyama (杉山雅則), Jean Ginsberg, Marcel Breuer, Agnoldomenico Pica, Francois Heep, Gio Ponti, and Walter Gropius.

This set is profusely illustrated throughout with numerous b/w photographic reproductions, architecture drawings and floor plans. Text in Japanese.
