Born in Germany, Johannes Daniel Gros (1738-1812) was a pastor and professor of both German and moral philosophy at Columbia University. This work is the text version of a course he taught there, and is the “first treatise on Moral Philosophy written and published in America,” according to Sabin (Sabin 28933).

Sporadic minor to moderate foxing throughout, except for pp. 301 to 304, which are heavily foxed.
