Original brown cloth boards, as issued, with blind stamped design on covers, and gilt lettering on the spine. The publication is a fifth edition of the acclaimed work by Tennyson, original published only one year earlier. The poem serves as a memorial tribute to the deceased poet Arthur Henry Hallam, a close friend of Tennyson, and is written in iambic tetrameter. Publisher's advertisements dated "November 1853". Binding with some scratches to boards, some light bumping and rubbing to edges and corners, spine sunned, and book block slightly cocked. Interior with starting at gutter of interior front cover, and some sporadic light foxing throughout. Binding in overall good-, interior in good condition. g- to g. Item #42120
