The publication is an index to Alfred Lord Tennsyon's acclaimed poem "In Memoriam", a memorial tribute to his longtime friend Arthur Henry Hallam.
As stated in the introduction, "The principle adopted in the index is that of referring to each clause under the heading of the most important noun contained in it...", with each page being arranged in a two column format. This was among the earlier published works by Dodgson.
Binding with some light rubbing to edges, as well as some light smudging and scratches to boards. Spine lightly sunned. Interior with starting at pages 2 and 40, as well as some wormholes to the bottom of pages 4-8 of the publisher ads, slightly affecting text. Book block tight overall.
