Original red cloth spine over printed aqua paper wrappers, with black lettering on front cover. The publication is a portfolio of 16 original illustrations by Paolo Priolo, plus an initial introductory plate, from the Art-Union of London. Each drawing features an engraved scene taken from Tennyson's "Idylls of the King", measures 8" x 10", and features a caption underneath. As revealed in the introduction Priolo's work was chosen as part of a public contest held by the Art-Union. Front cover with an inscription "John Warren, from Sir Royston". Portfolio with some light smudges, rubbing and spotting to covers. Front cover includes a contemporary inscription in pen to the previous owner. Interior with light foxing to plates throughout, often times lightly affecting images. Binding and interior in overall g- condition. g-. Item #42076
John Byrne Leicester Warren, 3rd Baron de Tabley (26 April 1835 – 22 November 1895) was an English poet, numismatist, botanist and an authority on bookplates. He was a close friend of Alfred Lord Tennyson.
