The first opus in the series "History of the Moscow subway," this beautifully produced book was designed by a team of artists under the direction of Elena Dmitrievna Mashkovtseva. The book was published at the beginning of March 1935, shortly before the opening of the first stage of the Moscow metro on May 15 of the same year.

Illustrated throughout with numerous woodcuts finely executed, as well as b/w and duo-tone photographic reproductions, this work tells the fascinating history of the construction of the Moscow metro as seen through the eyes of those who built it (engineers, architects, designers, drifters, diggers, drillers, etc..).

This book is complete with its large folding map at rear.

Minor shelf wear. Gold lettering partly faded along spine. Rear hinge slightly starting. Text in Russian. Binding in overall good+ to very good, interior in very good condition. g+ to vg. Item #41670
