La Pénétration des Arabes en Syrie Avant l'Islam [INSTITUT FRANÇAIS D'ARCHÉOLOGIE DE BEYROUTH, BIBLIOTHÈQUE ARCHÉOLOGIQUE ET HISTORIQUE, T. LIX]

Paris: Librairie Orientaliste Paul Geuthner, 1955. First edition. Softcover. Quarto (11 x 9"). 234, [2]pp. Uncut. Original printed wrappers, with publisher's logo on front cover and title page.

In this scholarly work, the author envisages the history of the border areas in the north and northeast of the Arabian Peninsula as a sequence of sedentarizations in which Arab nomads undergoing linguistic and cultural assimilation to the already settled populations achieve political organization.

Proceeding from the more recent to the more remote, Dussaud studies the development of the Nabateans and the Palmyrenes, then turns his attention to the South Arabians in Syria, the Libyan, Thamud, and Safatenes, to conclude his investigation with an analysis of the movements of the Hebrews and Israelites, Arameans and Caanites.

This work is illustrated with 31 in-text and full-page figs.

Upper front corner creased and bumped, thus slightly affecting the first 50 pages. Text in French. Wrappers in overall good- to good, interior in good+ to fine condition. g- to vg. Item #41566
