Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1959-1966. Hardcover. Large octavos. Orange, black and white illustrated dust jackets, with white lettering on front cover, and black lettering on spine. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering and publisher's device on spine. Inscribed and signed by the editor at the front free endpaper of the first volume, along with a note reading "With the compliments of the Editor" laid in. Bottom edge of volumes uncut at bottom. The work is a comprehensive collection of Coleridge's personal correspondence from 1785 -1819 (with 641 letters dating from 1785-1806 in vols 1-2, and 580 letters from 1807-1819 in vols 3-4). *Note that this set does not include the two subsequently published volumes (#5 & 6). Griggs has supplemented Coleridge's letters with extensive scholarly footnotes and references. Dust jackets with some light age toning, as well as some light creasing, closed tears, rubbing and staining. Some spotting to top edges, and light smudging to side edge of volumes. Bindings with some minor smudging. Vol.1 with some rippling of the spine due to water exposure, and a water stain at the bottom of the back cover. Dust jackets in good to good+, bindings in good to very good+, interiors in overall very good+ to near fine condition. g to near fine. Item #41296
