This set contains vols. 1-4 from a total of 5 vols published as the New Series of the Archeaeologica Sinica Series of publications by the Institute of History and Philosophy, Academia Sinica, in Taiwan. The New Series is a comprehensive academic study of bronze vessels from the Shang dynasty period, excavated from the (小屯) Hsiao-Tun and (侯家庄) Hou Chia Chuang sites. Content of the volumes are as follows:

Vol.1: "Studies of the Bronze Ku-Beaker" (Gu, or wine cups)
Vol.2: "Studies of the Bronze Chueh-Cup" (Jue, or three legged wine vessel)
Vol.3: "Studies of the Chia-Vessel" (Jia, or wine heating cauldron)
Vol.4: "Studies of the Bronze Ting-Cauldron" (Ding, or sacrificial vessel)

The volumes include numerous tables, graphs, maps, figures and charts, (including some fold-outs) as well as a total of 149 plates of high quality b/w photographic reproductions of the artifacts. Text in Chinese, with each volume containing an English-language summary of the contents, at the the back. Bindings with light smudging and scratches to the boards, and some minor rubbing to some corners. Interiors with some light creasing to the edges and corners of some pages, and some occasional age light age-toning to the edges of some of the plates. Library bookplates at the interior front covers. Bindings in very good- to very good, interiors in very good- condition overall. vg- to vg. Item #41273

*(李濟) Li Ji or Li Chi (1896-1979), was a prominent Chinese archaeologist, who is considered to be the founder of modern Chinese archaeology. He conducted important work in proving the historical foundations of the Shang Dynasty, and was later the first director of the Archaeology department at the Academica Sinica and the National Taiwan University.
