Osaka: ハナ書房 Hana Shobo, 1955. First edition. Softcover. Quarto (10 1/4 x 7 1/4"). [2], 111, [7]pp. Original illustrated wrappers with red, white and black lettering to covers.

Lavishly illustrated with hundreds of b/w drawings, b/w, color and duo-tone photographic reproductions of female nudes, this work is a monograph on the art and techniques of Hayashi Takeshi (1896-1975), a Western-style Japanese painter whose first paintings were clearly influenced by Matisse and Derain. His talent won him many awards in exhibitions throughout Japan, a chair at the Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku (Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music) and he received the prestigious Order of Culture (Bunka-sho) in 1967. Hayashi's "mature" paintings tended to be more cubist in their style.

Closed tears at head and tail of spine. Lower corners bumped, thus slightly affecting pages throughout. Text in Japanese. Wrappers in overall good- to good, interior in good+ to very good condition. g- to vg. Item #41082
