Although the first half of the 20th century in Korean history is marked by the grave and painful experience of the Japanese occupation between 1910 and 1945, this period also saw the Japanese carrying out the first modern archaeological excavations of ancient Korean sites (royal tombs, temples, ceramic kilns) and preservation of their artifacts. Inaugurated in 1915, the Government General Museum was intended to gather and exhibit some of the best material found during these activities.
Published between 1929 and 1943, the Museum bulletin featured some of the best pieces exhibited within its wall. This seventh volume published in 1935 reproduces in photogravure the following artifacts:
- Polished stone implements (Late neolithic period), found in a neolithic site in Shinanri, Kanjyomen, Kojyo district, Kogen prefecture.
- Bronze and iron implements (Rakuro period), found in Jyori, South Heian prefecture.
- Bronze and iron implements (Rakuro period), found at the same site mentioned above (Jyori, South Heian prefecture). - Bronze mirrors (Pre-Sangoku period), found in northern Chosen.
- A cross bow (Rakuro period), found in tomb #127 in Teihakuri, near Heijyo, South Heian prefecture.
- A laquered dish pan (Rakuro period) found in tomb #127 in Teihakuri, near Heijyo, South Heian prefecture.
- A necklace, earrings and armlets (Sangoku period) found in a tomb in Ryosan, South Keisyo prefecture.
- A stone coffin (Korai period).
- A part of a marble pagoda (Korai period), removed from the temple of Keitenji, near Kaijyo, Keiki prefecture.
- A "Hakeme" glazed pot (Lee period).
Each photogravure plate is facing its captioned tissue-guard made of rice paper.
Minor shelf wear and sporadic soiling to wrappers. Tip of lower corner of back cover chipped. Captions in Japanese and English. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition. g to vg. Item #41053
