This a facsimile of an original Ph.D. dissertation presented to the faculty of the Faculty of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Denver, in 1967. The author examines the famed Middle English poem "Pearl", within the context of the medieval/chivalric romance literary genre. The poem, written by a still unknown author, is discussed in the reference the the tenants of the courtly and chivalric romances, the elements of the fantastical and the fairy tale within the poem, and the parallels between the poem and the grail-quest romances of the time.
