Illustrated with 55 b/w illustrations (including 52 full-page), "Des Clowns, des Girls, du Cinéma" is a delightful collection of essays depicting lively scenes from the circus, the cabaret and early cinema.
Each of the three sections is splendidly illustrated by French illustrator Serge (1901-1992) (pen name of Maurice Féaudierre), a celebrated French journalist, chronicler, painter and illustrator, whose main interests were circus, variety, and the Gypsies. Indeed, these were the subjects of his many books, paintings and drawings, magazine articles, and radio shows.
