On August 12, 1985, the largest number of deaths in a single commercial airplane crash occurred when a Japan Air Lines Boeing 747 crashed into Mt. Ogura in Japan, killing 520 passengers and crew members. Accompanying the rescue mission, Naonari Kohira was the first photographer who reached the crash site. There he discovered the four miraculous crash survivors.

His photo book "4/524", published six years after the crash, features the 51 b/w photographs which he took on the spot. Some images are extremely graphic and may be disturbing to some individuals.
