Jerusalem N. E., Jerusalem S., and Jerusalem (x2) [FOUR FOLD-OUT PANORAMIC VIEWS OF JERUSALEM IN PHOTOGRAVURE]

Jerusalem: Dormition Abbey, n.d. (ca 1933). First edition. Softcover. Three Oblong octavos (10 1/2 x 6 1/4" for "Jerusalem N. E.", 9 1/4 x 6 1/4" for "Jerusalem S.", and 6 1/4 x 8 1/2" for "Jerusalem") + one 16mo. (3 1/4 x 5 3/4" for "Jerusalem"). Unpaginated. Original brown and tan printed wrappers.

A collection of four magnificent fold-out panoramic views of Jerusalem finely reproduced in photogravure. All booklets were produced for tourists in the 1930s by the Benedictine community of the Dormition Abbey.

- The first booklet shows a northeast view of the Holy City. When unfolded, the view measures 100" (8.33 feet).

- The second booklet shows a southern view of Jerusalem. When unfolded, the view measures 90" (7.5 feet).

- The third and four booklets are essentially two different sizes of the same view from East Jerusalem (Mount of Olives), looking northwest towards the Old City, prominently showing the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock in the foreground. The smaller booklet contains a key at the right for reference, listing 40 different sites that have been labeled in the panorama. The larger booklet of the same view is not labeled. When unfolded the the views measure 22 1/4" (almost 2 feet) and 49" (more than 4 feet) for the smaller and larger booklets respectively.

The larger of the "Jerusalem" books has some water staining to the top left corner of the front wrapper, and a small abrasion at the very top of the second panel, resulting in minor image loss. Images all clean and bright otherwise. Other booklets with minor shelf wear to wrappers, otherwise in very good condition. g+ to vg. Item #40583
