Lommen's intricate character sketch of Chaplin. This book was triggered by Lommen's viewing of one of Chaplin's momentous films, The Gold Rush. The film was written, produced and directed by Chaplin and the German writer Lommen had perceived this film to be one of the great grotesque movies of all times after viewing the first act in a movie theater. Watching the following acts Lommen's perception of Chaplin changed dramatically. He saw beyond the clown Chaplin and discovered the spokesman for true humanity, the philosopher, the man who used the comical as the means to make the people understand the tragic in our being on earth, the necessity of the painful in order to reach the heights of the matured human being, Chaplin's true moral mission. Text in German. Some light wear and discoloration along edges of wraps with minor stains on front. Block somewhat age-toned. Wraps and interior in overall good+ to very good condition.
