History of one of the oldest, if not oldest Jewish community in Germany, based on documents of the Cologne City-Archive and prepared for the general public. The author covers the Jewish community in Cologne during the reign of the Romans, the Franks, the emperors of Saxon and Franconian lineage, the Hohenstaufen to the interregnum and their subsequent expulsion in 1424 as well as the period from their expulsion to the middle of the 19th century in separate chapters. The book contains some 50 pages each for notes and original documents. The author suggests Otto Stobbe's (Breslau) work "Die Juden in Deutschland während des Mittelalters in politischer, socialer und rechtlicher Beziehung" for further studies. Stobbe's work was published when Weyden's title was close to going to the printer. Text in German, Gothic script. Wraps with wear along edges and rubbed. Front cover detached from block but present. Spine partially missing, mostly at head and tail. Block lightly age-toned and separated at pages 81, 145, and 241. Bumped at right upper corner for some pages around page 233. Pages uncut at top edge. Wraps in overall fair to good-, interior in fair to god+ condition. fair to g+. Item #40342
