Originally published in two separate books "Moeurs des Israélites" (1681), and Moeurs des Chrétiens" (1682), "Moeurs des Israélites et des Chrétiens" is a comparison of Jewish and Christian practices by Abbé Claude Fleury (1640-1723), a leading French cleric and the confessor to Louis XV. The vast majority of Fleury's section on Judaism deals with biblical Israel, with a brief discussion at the end as to how post biblical Judaism degenerated into Pharisees, Sadducees and Essenes before moving on to Christianity, which Fleury saw as the true heir to the biblical religion.
