André Levinson's early account of the life and career of the great Ukranian-born French ballet dancer, Serge Lifar. Lifar was a principal dancer for the Ballets Russes and held the post of ballet master at the Paris Opera from 1930 to 1944 and 1947 to 1958. Accompanying the text are 60 striking photographic plates that reproduce original photographs taken of Lifar in his various ballet roles from 1924 to 1932. Several of the photographs are by Man Ray and Lipnitzki.
