A Collection of 50 Works by Ansel Adams

1. Sierra Nevada The John Muir Trail. 1938. One of 26 lettered copies printed for the artist. The first edition was limited to 500 numbered copies, ours being one of the rare “lettered” copies. A Near Fine copy with the usual light browning to the white cloth and minor scuffs and marks. Laid-in an original and "contemporary Valentines Day Card from Ansel and Virginia Adams" with a tipped-in plate. All preserved in a modern fine cloth Solander box with gilt titled morocco label on spine.

2. Ansel Adams Yosemite and the Range of Light. 1979. First limited edition #107 of 250. Signed by Ansel Adams in the colophon with original Ansel Adams 16” x 20” silver print, hand-printed by Ansel Adams #6 of 50 "Juniper, Cliffs and River, Upper Merced River Canyon, Yosemite National Park," c. 1936.

3. Ansel Adams Yosemite and the Range of Light. 1979. First trade edition. Signed: “Ansel Adams Carmel”. Fine in Fine brodart-protected dust wrapper.

4. Ansel Adams Images 1923-1974. 1974. First edition. Signed by Ansel Adams. Fine in a Near Fine publisher’s slipcase that is complete (these are delicate and usually split).

5. Taos Pueblo. 1977. Limited fascimile edition, #138 of 950. Signed on the limitation page by Ansel Adams. Fine in Fine matching publisher’s slipcase.

6. Ansel Adams, My Camera in Yosemite Valley. 1949. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Ansel Adams: “For good friends and mountain people! Fern and George Ansel Adams, Yosemite, 1949”. Very good with front cover just separating from spiral binding, but secure in a protective brodart wrapper.

8. Ansel Adams, My Camera in the National Parks. 1950. First edition. Signed by Ansel Adams. Fine copy in perfect spiral binding and still enclosed in its original publisher’s box that includes the original label (box label missing some chips).

9. Edward Weston, My Camera on Point Lobos. 1950. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Edward Weston to a close personal friend and fellow photographer: “To ‘Hank’ From Edward with many happy memories—“ Laid-in a fine original lithograph from the book.

PROVENANCE: We believe that “Hank” represents Edward’s close friend and large format photographer Henry Swift, a founding member of the legendary Group f64.

10. The Islands of Hawaii. Ansel Adams. 1958. First edition. Fine in Fine dust wrapper protected in a brodart wrapper. This copy is exceptional in that it remains in absolutely fine condition with no faults (the delicate wrappers are often detached or damaged).

12. Fiat Lux The University of California. Ansel Adams. 1967. First edition. Signed by Ansel Adams on the title page. Fine in a Very Good brodart-protected dust wrapper.

13. Not Man Apart Photographs of the Big Sur Coast. 1965. First edition. A very special copy of this rare Sierra Club publication signed by many of the book’s contributing artists and the editor. Boldly signed on the half-title by Ansel Adams, Cole Weston, William Garnet, Steve Crouch and David Brower (editor). Laid-in a newspaper clipping of the photographers gathered together for the book signing. Fine in Fine brodart-protected dust wrapper.

14. This is the American Earth. Ansel Adams and Nancy Newhall. 1960. First edition. Signed by both Ansel Adams and Nancy Newhall on the FFEP, lightly spotted. Fine in Fine dust wrapper. Laid-in an original 8x10 black and white silver print, "Ansel Adams: Aspens Near Santa Fe, New Mexico, 1958" from the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY with their label.

Extremely scarce hardcover in this condition since most of these books were destroyed in the animosity toward the Japanese-American community that surrounded WWII and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. An important and rare work by Adams.
