Illustrated with 52 striking in-text woodcuts, this late 16th-century edition of Aesop's "Fables" (preceded with a life of the author) includes also the following works: Gabriae Graeci Tetrastichus's "Fables"; Homer's "Ranarum et Murium Pugna"; and Avianus' "Fables."
Binding age-toned and partly darkened. Handwritten title mostly faded on spine. 18th-century previous owner's inscription on inside of both covers. Title page trimmed at the top into the first line. Holes along fore-edge of title page (not affecting lettering) caused by worming. Clear and sporadic water-staining and age-toning throughout. Text in two columns, in Greek and Latin.
