These usually take some doing to make them "market conform," meaning to consider the various demands of the contemporary market. Then, there are the motifs meant as gifts, which take him but half an hour to complete. Thirdly, his self portraits, a discipline he deems to be undervalued in his time, bring his graphic talent to the fore and at the same time garner the greatest attention and effect. Not to mention that these are in Janssen's opinion the easiest and most comfortable way to make money. Lastly there are what Janssen calls potpourri drawings; little drawings of landscapes or illustrations for his own poetry and such. In translation Janssen comments: "In hindsight the critics confuse these days past: they rock a crib that I never laid in, draw paths into my wandering years I never walked in, and they put meat onto my plate that don like."
