String ties. Title page in red and black lettering. Rare portfolio containing 19 plates, of which 17 are outside and inside photographic views of the various buildings and rooms of the Königliche Technische Hochschule, and the last two plates are architectural floor plans. The striking photographs are reproduced in glorious photogravure. Built between 1877 and 1883 by German architects Julius Carl Raschdorff, Richard Lucae, and Friedrich Hitzig, the Königliche Technische Hochschule (now the Technical University of Berlin) remains today one of the largest and most prestigious research and education institutions in Germany. The university alumni and professor list include National Academies elections, two National Medal of Science laureates and ten Nobel Prize winners. Each plate measures 25 x 18 7/8" (with image size appr. 15 1/4 x 12"). Spine partly discolored and frayed, with closed tears along upper and lower joints. Covers darkened and soiled. String ties partly missing. Fore-edge and upper margin of page 5 partly soiled/darkened (not affecting text). Text in German. Portfolio in overall fair, interior in good+ to very good, plates in near fine to fine condition. Item #39606
