Kiew: Kooperativer Farlag: Kultur-Lige, 1924. First edition. Softcover. Duodecimo, 18pp. Original tan illustrated wraps with black lettering on cover. Illustrated with four fascinating drawings by Mark Epstein. Itzik Kipnis (1896-1974) was a Ukrainian-Jewish author. He published more than 30 books in Yiddish for children and teens and translated popular youth literature, like Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, into Yiddish. Illustrated by the graphic artist, painter and social activist Mark Epstein (1897-1949) born in Russia, who was one of the founders of Kultur-Lige. The aim of the Kultur-Lige was to synthetize the forms of Jewish folk art with avant-garde ideas. Some of its members like Marc Chagall became famous. Unfortunately most of Epsteins work have been lost, except some photographs and reproductions. Text in Yiddish. Some minor tears at corners of cover. Overall in fine condition. Fine. Item #39392

Price: $4,500.00
