Croatian Jewish Almanac for 1925-1926 with Hebrew weekly calendar. Illustrated with b/w photographs of prominent Jewish leaders as well as advertisements at rear. Includes contributions from Leopold Fischer and Mojsije Margel as well as many others. The book belonged to the library of Rabbi H.S. Linfield, Dir. of the Jewish Statistical Bureau, Hebrew Union College (Stamp on title page). This almanac is not just a calendar but a digest of articles on Judaism exemplifying the major means of Jewish political and religious reformers to create modern Judaism. Romani Jews lived in the Balkans since the time of the Roman Empire, forming a distinct wing of Judaism with their own customs, separate from Ashkenazi and Sefardi Jewry. They were almost completely wiped out by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Text in Croatian, some Hebrew, includes a Russian introduction. Front cover loose at front joint, attached only at back.
