L'Enfer des Soviets (The Soviet Hell) [FRENCH WWII POSTER]

[Paris]: NP, [1941]. First edition. Poster. Original World War II linen backed French poster (34 2/8 x 24 2/8"). This rare anti-Bolchevist propaganda poster was produced in occupied France during the Summer of 1941, when the German Wehrmacht, after occupying the Baltic countries and Ukraine, was entering deep into the Soviet Union. The poster is a photo-montage composed of 11 color photographs taken in Lemberg, Pleskau, and Nicolaiev (Ukraine). The grim images show churches desecrated by the Red Army; the mass murders of Ukrainian peasants and political opponents; Ukrainian villages set alight by retreating Soviet forces; workers living in shanties with rotten straw roofs; and the hopeless poverty of the common people, thus mocking a Soviet Union which was supposed to be “the workers’ paradise, the true home of the workers of the world.” Minor and sporadic chipping along upper margin and right fore-edge, not affecting the images. Captions in French. Poster in overall good to good+ condition. g to g+. Item #39233
