Portfolio cover in red and black lettering with SA Caterina emblem. Title page in black lettering, both with SA Caterina emblem. Striking pictorial survey of Italian Majolica tiles from the end of the 15th to the beginning of the 16th century. In Italy, during the latter part of the 15th and the first half of the 16th century, majolica tiles, rich both in pattern and in color, were used for pavements and interior decoration in many places.

This portfolio contains 21 splendid chromolithographic plates, printed by the Lithographic institute Wilhelm Greve. They are numbered 1 through 24, each with two or more examples, and three double-plates with continuous numbering, e.g nos. 23 on left, 24 on right side. Text in German. Plates 7, 19, 20, and 23/24 printed to different tan colored paper. Age toning and moderate rubbing along edges of portfolio. Head and tail of spine partly frayed. String tie along fore-edge missing. Half-title sunned, with minor closed tears along edges. Plates 7, 19, 20, and 23/24 with some chipping along edges, plate 23/24 separated at center. Portfolio in overall fair to good-, interior in good+, most chromolithographic plates in very good condition. g- to vg. Item #38925
