This is the fourth volume of Shlomo Simonsohn's monumental undertaking which relates the history of papal Jewry policy in the Middle Ages and Renaissance from the days of Gelasius I to those of Julius III. It contains letters issued by three of the Renaissance popes: Adrian VI, Clement VII, and Paul III (Part One). The letters in this volume illustrate the dual role of the papacy, both protecting and limiting the privileges of the Jews. Each letter is in its original language - Latin - but is preceded by an explanatory text in English. Some moderate sunning to wrappers.
