Printer's device on title page. Five engravings by William Kent facing sectional half-title pages: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Poem. Decorative headpieces, initials and endpieces. First collected edition of The Seasons, containing the first issue of 'Autumn', 'A Hymn on the seasons' and 'A poem the the memory of Sir Isaac Newton', but not 'Britannia', with a seven page list of subscribers and printed errata at front. Ex Libris reading Sr. George Smith Baronet on inside cover, a most favorable review cut out and pasted to front free endpaper, and a verse by Chaucer, also cut and pasted below review. Two brief, inked notes on front free endpaper including previous owner's name (Purdy). Front cover with front free endpaper detached but present. Spine cracked at back joint, wear along edges and scuffing on partly crackling calf. Light foxing and age-toning in margins of block and two inch triangular water stain in upper right corner from title page through page 93. Handwritten note dated 6th of July 1841 partially glued to bottom of inside back cover, the other part detached and laid in. Binding in overall poor, interior in good condition. fair to g.
