Tennessee Williams' Letters to Donald Windham

Verona: Donald Windham, 1976. Limited edition. Softcover. 182/500. 333(3)pp. Original acetate dustjacket over illustrated wrappers with blue lettering on spine; housed in blue cloth slipcase. "In the 1940's, as now, Tennessee was mobile. I was stationary. And when we were in different places he wrote to me. I don't know if he wrote similar letters to other people. Certainly no other person wrote letters like his to me. They are as intimate as his presence was, and often more informative. To read them is to know why I liked him... By the 1950's, our relationship and the letters have changed. Tennessee often says that he didn't change after his success. In an outward sense, and for what consistency is worth, that is true. But everything else changed... My aim has been to keep the letters as nearly as possible as written. I have, to the best of my ability, silently corrected mistakes in typing and spelling, but I have usually retained Tennessee's unorthodox use of hyphens, dashes, etc." (March 1976, Donald Windham). Slipcase with one minor stain. Slipcase in overall near fine, dj, wrappers and interior in fine condition. Fine. Item #38218
