NP: Matej Andraz Vogrincic, 2003. First edition. Hardcover. Dedicated and signed by artist on text page at rear. Oblong Quarto. Unpaginated, 32pp. Original photo-illustrated boards. Photo-illustrated endpapers. The Slovenian artist Matej Andraz Vogrincic is known for his site-specific work in urban and natural environments. Moon Plain, one of his Australian projects and part of the South Australian Tourism Commission's 2002 Year of the Outback, is a project "consisting of 1,800 perfectly white plaster casts of three differently shaped and sized miniature toy watering cans, arranged on an area of approximately 800 square meters of ground in a very slight, bowl-shaped depression. An almost imperceptible hill or rise nearby obscures the dirt road that passes approximately two kilometers away. The formation of plaster models, which the artist manufactured over a period of three months in an underground pottery in Coober Pedy, is neither polygonal, nor entirely rounded or wholly organic in shape. Likewise, the distribution and placement of each model is neither random nor strictly regimented... Upon closer inspection the formation of plaster objects resembles a flock of greedy white sulpher-crested cockatoos, a sight that has always tormented Australian farmers. The miniature scale of these spectral watering cans and the weird choreography with which they are set out upon a gigantic sweep of flat nothingness give this installation its powerful aesthetic charge." (Angus Trumble). Illustrated with striking color photographs, endpapers in b/w, by Alex Makeyev, Sean Slatterall, Ben J. Walker, Farhad Nori, Simone Tippet, and Irena Woelle. Boards lightly rubbed with light wear at edges and spine. Light bump at lower right corner affecting block throughout. Binding and interior in overall good+ to very good condition. g+ to vg.
