Original Photo Album 50 Jahre Goetze
NP: NP, 1937. Hardcover. Oblong Quarto album. 25 sheets with 103 original, tipped-in photographs with tissue guards. Original brown bolted calf with leather string binding and embossed ornamental decor. A unique documentation of the well attended 50th Anniversary Gala of the Goetzewerk A. G., a German manufacturer of piston rings, washers and gaskets, on July 3, 1937 in Cologne and Düsseldorf. The album opens with an orange sticker of the anniversary banner on page one followed by a photograph (7 x 9.5") featuring the bust of the founder of the company, Friederich Goetze, placed near the podium in the festival hall. The program for this impressive event across two cities is pasted to the third page. Guests attending the morning and afternoon program in Düsseldorf took the train to Cologne and marched, lead by the company band, to the fairgrounds in Cologne for the evening entertainment. The 22 heavy stock umbra sheets with tipped-in photographs depict a variety of scenes starting with scores of guests in the entrance hall of the fairground attending the exhibition of company products in Düsseldorf and shots of the seating for the company dinner in the "städtische Tonhalle" Düsseldorf. The album contains photographs of the fairground, the grand festival hall, adorned generously with greenery, company banner and Nazi flags, on the fairground in Cologne and the location of the evening entertainment, show close-ups of guests and speakers, one of them in Nazi attire, the orchestra and dance. The evening entertainment program with MC Gustav Jacoby featured opera singers, comedians, the ballet of the Cologne Opera, Ernst Kraus conducting the orchestra, and Gerhard Ebeler, a known songwriter, among others. Laid in one page with the program for the evening entertainment, part two of the event. Text in German. Light wear along edges and joints of binding. Bolt tops missing and front of leather string binding detached, the latter present. First tissue guard missing. One blank photo sheet and one photograph missing on second to last page. g to vg.
