Paul de Lagarde (Paul Anton Bötticher) was a noted linguist and a proponent of folkloristic oriented Christianity, German imperialism and known for his anti-Semitism. His writings were widely red and observed until the time of National Socialism in Germany. It is said that particularly Chamberlain was an avid reader of his writings, but also Adolf Hitler, Nietzsche, Rosenberg, Wagner, even Thomas Mann. Symmicta is a collection of Lagarde's writings published in newspapers, on his study of Hebrew manuscripts and a fragment of a doctor Africanus, on two pieces from Friedrich Rückert's estate and Ephiphaniana.
