A photo-documentation of the blockade around West Berlin, its development since August 13th, 1961 including the most important events. Profusely illustrated with dramatic b/w photographs of the first days of the blockade, the beginning of the building of the Berlin Wall. Photographs show East Berlin people jumping out of buildings into jumping sheets, East German soldiers and construction crews demolishing houses in the border area to clear the view and fireline at the wall, armed soldiers guarding the wall, busses stuck during attempts to break through the wall, and various photographs of demonstrations and attempts to flee to West Berlin. Furthermore photogrpahs of Khrushchov and President Kennedy visiting the wall, people shot at the wall and being carried back to East Berlin by soldiers, and East German soldiers escaping to West Berlin. A documentation of the history of one of the most dreadful tools employed in the cold war. Text in German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
