Der Massenmord im Walde von Katyn. Ein Tatsachenbericht

Berlin: Zentralverlag der NSDAP. Franz Eher Nachf. GmbH. 1943. First edition. Softcover. Oblong Sextodecimo. Unpaginated, 14pp. text, 24pp. plates. Original black wraps with red spine and with white lettering on cover. This publication may well be an excerpt of the report called "Amtliches Material zum Massenmord" von Katyn (Official Material on the Mass Murder of Katyn) which was compiled by the German Information Office. A three page text gives an overview of the events regarding the flight of the Polish Army to the East and their subsequent detention by the Soviet Army and, based on information by eye witnesses, found in mass graves in the woods of Katyn. Contains the protocol of an international commission of leading representatives of criminal medicine, all from territories occupied by or allied with the Nazis. In conclusion the commission states, after opening 7 mass graves with a total of 982 corpses, that 70% of them had been identified. The cause of death of all of them was a shot in the neck. Recovered papers, diaries, newspapers, etc. lead to believe that the executions had been committed in the months of March and April of 1940. A final page of text, signed F. R., states this event to be the largest and most brutal mass murder of history and deems it to be "just one case" of the Jewish-Bolshevik" praxis of murder. Illustrated with some 30 gruesome b/w photographs of mass graves with uncovered corpses, members of the commission at work, and three photographic reproductions of documents, including an ID of a Polish officer. Text in German. Wrappers with very light wear along edges and block lightly age toned. Wrappers and interior in overall very good condition. vg. Item #37598
