Original portfolio is half cloth over decorative handmade paper with water lily design and title label on front cover. Brown string ties. Title page in red and black lettering. Publisher's logo on title. 8 page introductory notes followed by a 4 page section detailing the contents of the plates to follow. Thereafter, are 54 striking collotype plates of Chinese Furniture examples, all on heavyweight ivory stock. First published in French in 1922. First German edition of this rare and collectible work on classical Ming and Qing Chinese lacquer furniture owned by great collectors, such as Odilon Roche himself, Charles Vignier, L. Wannieck, Paul Mallon, John S. T. Audley, etc..). The work is known as one of the earliest and most important works on the art of Chinese furniture. Most of furniture was stolen from the Imperial Palace in Beijing during the foreign occupation in 1900. The types of furniture featured are considered quite rare and highly valuable, even in China. Head and tail of spine chipped. Spine frayed along edges. Corners rubbed, with minor abrasion to paper. Moderate foxing on title page. Text and captions in German.
