"Le Moniteur des Dames et des Demoiselles" was one of the most popular fashion magazines published for French women during the second half of the 19th century. This collection presents a striking array of women’s fashions from the 1864-1865 season. Each of the twelve issues contains a hand-colored plate on which appear two or three ladies, often accompanied by an elegantly clad child, all dressed in magnificent costumes appropriate for various seasons and specific occasions: a day in the country, a casual promenade, visiting and receiving guests, weddings, evening receptions, balls, and other social events. The striking plates are after drawings by Jules David. The January 1865 issue has 2 hand-colored plates (1 full-page, 1 double-page). Binding rubbed along edges with abrasion to leather.
