Documentation of the efforts to admit the Arroyo Seco Parkway into the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places. Ring folder 1: 1) A 39 page Continuation Sheet of the National Register including a summary of the Arroyo Seco Parkway history, a detailed route description, accounts of the Parkway/Freeway Controversy which dates back to 1897, the financing and construction preceding the Parkway in detail, the the phases of Parkway Design and Construction, and an extensive Statement of Significance recommending the Parkway to be included into the National Register of Historic Places concluding with a section on major bibliographic references, including planning documents and unpublished references. The Parkway was listed in the Register in 2011. 2) Two Working Drafts of the Management Plan, the draft of September 16, 2003, and the draft of February 12, 2004, prepared by the National Trust for Historic Preservation illustrated and with in-text b/w reproductions of the Parkway. 3) The guidelines for the Maintenance and Treatment of Character Defining Features prepared on the basis of documents of the US Department of Transportation and the National Park Service providing technical information to identify historic resources. The guidelines are illustrated with in-text b/w reproductions of photographs, drawings and diagrams (2 copies). Ring folder 2 contains the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) index of photographs, HAER No. CA 265, by Brian Grogan with 148 silver gelatin prints, encased on separate heavy stock archival album sheets, and 6 color Xerox copies documenting the course of the Parkway with detailed captions grouped on separate sheets. Some light wear to covers of ring folders. Ring folders in overall good- to good, interior in very good condition. vg. Item #36957
