Hommes-Fleurs et Verte Arabie

Paris: Souffles, 1988. First edition. Hardcover. Quarto. 189, [1]pp. Original photo-illustrated dust-jacket over blue cloth with white lettering on spine and front cover. Pictorial endpapers. The author of this book is Thierry Mauger, an information "architect" who came to Saudi Arabia with a strong desire to stay away from the Western daily life and with the intention to "submerge" into the culture of the region. This volume takes us to Habala, a small mountain village in the 'Asir province of Saudi Arabia, and introduces us to the local tribal community known as the "flower men" because of their custom of wearing garlands of dried herbs and flowers in their hair. In the past, the village was only accessible by rope ladder, and in fact, the name Habala comes from the Arabic word for rope. This book features numerous striking color photographs. Minor shelf wear. Slight age toning along paper margin. Text in French. DJ, binding and interior in overall good+ to very good condition. vg. Item #36558
