The Daily Prayers for American Israelites as Revised in Conference

Cincinnati: Bloch & Co., 1872. Revised. Hardcover. Ex-library copy. 12mo. 271pp. (Hebrew section) 48pp. (English section). Original brown cloth with blind stamped borders. Yellow endpapers. Revised second edition of Isaac Meyer Wise's "Minhag America" siddur, which became the standard prayer book for the Reform movement in the United States during the late 19th century. Traditional references to a return to Zion, the sacrificial cult and the resurrection of the dead are absent, manifestations of what would later become the official Reform theological positions as outlined in the Pittsburgh platform of 1885. This prayer book was eventually replaced by the Union Prayer Book in the 1890s. Partial blank library sticker on bottom of spine. Binding rubbed with wear along edges, light bumps and some scuffing at corners. Circular stain from cup on cover. Spine with light fraying at head and tail and scuffing at joints. Short inked inscription from previous owner on inside back cover. Library card pocket, due date slip and stamp on front endpapers. Faded stamp on page edges. Some light creasing and smudging on a few pages. Binding in overall good-, interior in good condition. g. Item #36512
