Unique photo album of gymnasts at the Berlin Olympic Games of 1936

Berlin: 1936. Hardcover. Oblong quarto. Unpaginated. [20] tissue-guarded leafs (17 one-sided, and 3 double-sided). Original tan cloth photo-album with the Olympic rings stamped on front cover. String bound. Stunning collection of 86 original silver gelatin prints featuring the Czech gymnastics team, as well as its German, Swiss, Finnish, and Italian competitors during the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. The stunning motion-capture photos display the grace of athletes who are seen competing on 5 of the 9 gymnastics events: rings, parallel bar, pommel horse, horizontal bar and floor exercise. Some prints depict the opening ceremony at the Dietrich-Eckart Open Air Theatre, and also officials and teams at the Tribune stadium. One photograph shows the Hinderburg flying over the Olympic Stadium. The last part of this album is photographs of the warm welcome given to the Czech women's gymnastics team in Prague after they had won their first silver medal in the Women's Team Combined Exercises. Men dressed in traditional costume are escorting the parade. Picture size varies (mostly 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" and 3 1/5" x 5 1/2"). Moderate sunning and slight soiling on covers. Tissue-guards slightly age-toned. This album appears to have been created by a member of the Czech Gymnastics team. Binding in overall good to good+, interior in good+, photographs in very good condition. g. Item #36494
