Subjektive Fotografie

Bonn: Brüder Auer Verlag, 1952. First edition. Hardcover. Quarto. 40pp., 112 plates. Original gray cloth with gilt lettering on cover and spine. Decorative endpapers. Vignette on title page. After the 'new photography' movement in the 1920s, the 1950s saw a second wave of photography on its way to claiming its place among the creative arts, 'subjective photography.' An exhibition with the same title was curated in Cologne in 1951 under the auspices of the newly founded "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie" placing the emphasis clearly on the creative impulse of the individual photographer as opposed to the 'applied' utilitarian and documentary photography. The 112 photographs shown in this publication, among them works from Moholy-Nagy, Man Ray, Brassai, Herbert Bayer, Peter Keetman, and others, concentrate essentially on compositions with regard to their form and content. Includes list of images at rear. Text in German, French and English. Spine somewhat faded and some age-toning to text pages and margins of plates not affecting the images. Fold-out list of images creased at foredge. Binding and interior in overall good+ condition. g+. Item #36471
