Original illustrated tan cloth with gilt-stamped reduced original illustration of paperback edition on cover. Frontispiece photogravure portrait. Retrospective catalog of the Wildenstein exhibition published shortly after Ryback's death. Issachar Ryback (1897-1935) was an important contributor to the Russian art scene until 1921 when he emigrated to Berlin. In 1926 he moved to Paris and in 1935 died just a day before the opening of his first retrospective exhibition, organized by the famous international art dealer, collector and scholar, Daniel Leopold Wildenstein (1917-2001). Ryback was an important member of the Russian Jewish modernist movement whose artists were seeking to revitalize Jewish art during a period which saw the cultural efflorescence of Yiddish literature, music, theater, and art. Illustrated with 32 impressive b/w lithographic reproductions of Ryback's paintings. Text in Yiddish. Minor age-toning to block not affecting text or plates.
