Dor Dor Ve-Dorshav: Hu Sefer Divrei Ha-Yamim Le-Torah She-Baal Pe (5 vols.)

New York: Platt & Minkus, 1924. Reprint. Hardcover. Complete 5 volume set. Original black cloth with gold lettering on spine. A history of the Jewish oral law from the biblical period through R. Joseph Karo's writing of the Shulhan Arukh. R. Isaac Hirsch Weiss was a prominent 19th century Talmudic scholar, who lived much of his life in Vienna. While Weiss rejected biblical criticism and believed that the Pentateuch was a unified work dating from the time of Moses, he did see it as largely a product of human design and subject to historical analysis. He therefore came under criticism from many orthodox traditionalists. This work was first printed in Vienna from 1871-91. A Yiddish edition was printed in Vilna from 1904-10. Text in Hebrew. Several volumes have book plates and stamps from previous owners. Some rubbing to edges. Overall in good condition. g. Item #35776
