Francis Bacon was an English philosopher, statesman, scientist, jurist and author. He is credited with creating empiricism, a theory of knowledge based primarily on sensory experience. He established and popularized inductive methodologies for scientific inquiry often referred to as the Bacon method. He was elected to the English Parliament and served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor. In 1621 his public career ended in disgrace when he was charged with 23 separate counts of corruption though he remained extremely influencial through his philosophical works and as a practitioner of the scientific method after his death.
