A first and limited edition of this lavishly illustrated work on King Henry VIII (1491-1547), who was the second monarch of the Tudor dynasty, succeeding his father, Henry VII. Besides his six marriages, Henry VIII is known for his role in the separation of the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church. Henry's struggles with Rome led to the separation of the Church of England from papal authority, the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and his own establishment as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. This work is profusely illustrated throughout with numerous tissue-guarded duo-tone engravings. Limited edition of 1150 copies on fine paper of which this is number 602. Moderate rubbing along edges of binding. Previous owner's bookplate on inside of front cover (Reginald Gurney). Moderate foxing on very first and very last pages.
