Vignette on endpapers. Frontispiece photograph. Profusely illustrated with striking in-text color and b/w photographs. Headrest are a superb study of the marriage of form and function. The William J. Loss collection consists mostly of African and smaller groupings form Asia and Oceania. William J. Dewey is one of the few scholars to probe the complexity of headrests as an integral part of his field research to elucidate the social, spiritual, and political dimensions of them.
