Trois Pensées Inédites de Pascal: Extraites du Manuscrit de l'Abbé Périer, Son Neveu [Inscribed and Signed]

Paris: Editions Littéraires de France, 1945. Limited first edition. Softcover. 1/950. Quarto. 141, [7]pp. Uncut and unopened copy. Original printed wrappers. Free front endpaper inscribed and signed by Louis Lafuma. Title page in red and black lettering. Illustrated head-, and tailpieces. The Pensées (literally, "thoughts") represented a defense of the Christian religion by Blaise Pascal, the renowned 17th century philosopher and mathematician. Pascal's religious conversion led him into a life of asceticism, and the Pensées was in many ways his life's work. This work is one of the several attempts that have been made to arrange the notes systematically; other notable editions include those of Léon Brunschvicg, and Jacques Chevalier. One of 950 copies printed on Vélin d'Arches Pur Fil, of which this is No. 730. Upper front corner bumped, thus slightly affecting pages throughout. Text in French. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition. g. Item #34159
