In 1860, Count Carl Alexander von Sachsen-Weimar und Eisenach founded the "Großherzoglich Sächsische Kunstschule" in Weimar leading to the 'creation' of the "Weimarer Malerschule," which was a precursor to "Freilichtmalerei" (outdoor painting) and Impressionism in Germany. Work contains many photographic color & b/w reproductions of painters of the movement from 1860 - 1900 such as Max Liebermann, Franz Lenbach, Kurt Buchholz, Paul Tübbecke, Albert Brendel, Otto von Kamecke and many others.
